Coolie vs War 2: Box Office Clash Smashes ₹460 Crore Worldwide in 3 Days

South superstar Rajinikanth’s “Coolie” and Bollywood stars Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s “War 2“, released on the occasion of Indian Independence Day, have created a stir by breaking all the records at the box office. Both the films have done a combined worldwide business of ₹460 crore+ in just two days.

Coolie: Tamil cinema’s new number-one opener

Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, “Coolie”, is a big budget ₹220 crore action thriller starring Rajinikanth along with stars like Nagarjuna, Aamir Khan, Upendra and Shobin Shahir. The film was released on 7000 screens, and was delivered to audiences in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam languages.

On the first day itself, “Coolie” earned ₹117 crore in advance booking and earned ₹55 crore from Tamil Nadu, ₹23 crore from Telugu, ₹8.5 crore from Hindi. With ₹82 crore (approximately $9.2 million) from the overseas market, its first day total was ₹166 crore, making it the biggest opener of 2025 and surpassing films like “Leo” and “Jawan”.

The film’s magic continued on the second day on the occasion of Independence Day and earned ₹122 crore. Thus, in just two days, the collection of “Coolie” reached ₹288 crore, making it an all-time blockbuster in just two days.

War 2: Bollywood’s biggest opener of the year

“War 2” is the next blast in the Indian spy universe, directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced by Yash Raj Films. The Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR and Kiara Advani starrer has a budget of ₹400 crores and was released on 7000 screens in India and 9000+ screens worldwide.

On the first day, the all India gross was ₹60 crores with earnings of ₹32 crores in Hindi, ₹25 crores in Telugu and ₹1.5 crores in Tamil Nadu. The film’s worldwide opening collection increased to ₹92 crores with ₹32 crores from overseas.

On the second day, the box office picked up further pace on the occasion of Independence Day. The total collection of the day was ₹80 crores with earnings of ₹35 crores in Hindi, ₹19 crores in Telugu and ₹25 crores overseas. The film’s worldwide collection reached ₹172 crores in two days and it became the biggest Bollywood opener of 2025.

Combined earnings of both films and future predictions

“Coolie” and “War 2” have made a combined worldwide collection of ₹460 crore+ in just two days. Trade analysts believe that both films together can cross the ₹800 crore mark in the 4-day Independence Day weekend.
